Taking maitake and reishi together may increase the risk of bruising or bleeding. Both mushrooms have properties that can slow down blood clotting. Additionally, both may lower blood sugar levels, which could lead to symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) such as dizziness or shakiness.

Why this happens
Both maitake and reishi have 'antiplatelet' effects, meaning they make blood cells less sticky and less likely to form clots. When used together, this effect is additive. They also both possess glucose-lowering properties, which can further reduce blood sugar levels when combined.
What you should do

If you are scheduled for surgery, stop taking both at least two weeks beforehand.
